Meet the Candidates for the Gananda Board Of Education

Three terms are set to expire for the Gananda Board of Education at the end of June. This year, there are five candidates running for three available chairs. A meet-n-greet has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at Ruben A. Cirillo High School beginning at 6pm for all community members to attend. You can learn more about each candidate below:
 

Greg Giles (incumbent):

Personal: A resident of Gananda for 13.5 years, Greg is married to Jolly Li and has one child, Jay (Gananda Class of 2026). Greg holds a master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and is a retiree from Eastman Kodak. He has been involved with the Gananda Central School District Board of Education for six years. 

Statement: I believe that our children deserve a superior educational experience that will set them up for success in our ever-changing and complex world. To that end, I want to be intimately involved in influencing district policies and decisions which will bring about the changes needed to realize that vision. Lastly, I want to give back to our community, something I was unable to do during my work years.

 

Michael Cardarelli:

Personal: A resident of Gananda for 13 years, Michael is married to Stephanie and has two children, Alexis (Gananda Class of 2031) and Ava (Gananda Class of 2033). Michael hold's a bachelor's degree in business economics from SUNY Oneonta.  Michael currently works in internal audit for Avangrid. He is a chapter leader for the Institute of Internal Auditors and currently volunteers on the Gananda CSD Audit Committee.

Statement: I want to ensure that everyone in the community has a voice in making educational and administrative decisions. I would like to strengthen the ties between the school board and its stakeholders. I believe in maintaining the quality of public education for the students.

 

Anthony Ferrari:

Personal: A resident of Gananda for 3 years, Anthony is married to Jamie and has one child, Brady (Gananda Class of 2032). Anthony holds an associate's degree from Monroe Community College (MCC) and had attended Nazareth College. He currently works for Red Argyle as an account executive. Anthony is a volunteer coach for Penfield Little League and has also volunteered for multiple animal rescues, including the one he runs himself.

Statement: My son is just beginning his Gananda career. I want to be able to help improve student performance and experience at Gananda for my son and all the other students that call this district home.

 

Robert Thornton:

Personal: A resident of Gananda for 1 year and 10 months, Robert is married to Laurie. Robert attended Edison Tech High School. He is a Senior Principal Mechanical Designer at MKS Instruments. Robert volunteers for the Blessed Home Community Church, Celebrate Recovery, and Caring Choices Pregnancy Health Center.

Statement: I want to be a positive influence in my Gananda community. I want to serve my neighborhood to my fullest ability. I want to invest in the future generation to reach their highest potential.

 

Patti Walker (incumbent):

Personal: A resident of Gananda for 23 years, Patti is married to Don, and has one child, Hunter (Gananda Class of 2025). Patti holds an Associate's degree in Accounting from Monroe Community College and works at the Memorial Art Gallery in finance.  She volunteers her time as a Gananda Central School District Board of Education member on various committees including: finance, facilities, and policy. 

Statement: As a former PTSA President and former PYH 12U Team Manager, I am seeking reelection to the Board of Education to continue my advocacy for and involvement with the Gananda educational community. Our school district's mission statement "educating all students for success" needs leadership, resources, understanding, flexibility, and dedication. I recognize all aspects of our community's contributions assist with the success of our students completing high school and transitioning positively to their next chapter.
