'Xanadu' Shines Among RBTL's Stars of Tomorrow

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League hosted the 26th annual Stars of Tomorrow recognition ceremony on May 10, which honors high school stage productions throughout the region.

And not only was Gananda among the schools recognized, it was cited for excellence in several categories. For its production of “Xanadu,” Gananda received Outstanding Recognition for the following:

  • Excellence in overall production
  • Excellence in production design
  • Excellence in production crew
  • Achievement in a Leading Role: Lyndsey Burns as Clio/Kira
  • Achievement in a Leading Role: Reese Davis as “Sonny”

These awards were announced on stage at the ceremony and awarded by the adjudicators.

Reese also was selected as one of the Top 40 performers to compete on May 23 for the RBTL’s NYC Bound Competition. Reese is competing for a chance to represent the Rochester area at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York.

In the “Tip of the Hat” category, which appeared in the playbill of the RBTL gala, Logan Potter was honored for his role of Danny Maguire, Cadence Strausser for her role as Melpomene, Layla Thomas for her role as Calliope and JJ LaDuke and Addelynne York were recognized for their work as assistant stage managers.

Named to the All-Star category for their overall support of the production were Joscelyn Erhardt (Erato/Aphrodite) and Alex VanAntwerp (Sound Board Operator).

And receiving Special Recognition were Addelynne York and Kat Bettinger.

Addie has been a stage manager the past three years at Gananda but performed double-duty this year as a featured member of the cast. Kat is a scenic and prop artist and this year designed the Xanadu wardrobe. Her creativity and artistry helped "Xanadu" shine on the Gananda stage.

Congratulations to all the Gananda students and staff who help the stage productions come alive with energy and creativity. We’re #GanandaProud of the work that’s put in on and off the stage that has us already eager for next year’s production!
