This year, one of our musically talented Gananda high school students was selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Zone 2 Jr. Area All-State Festival. The festival takes place the weekend of November 6 and 7 at Lyndonville High School. Congratulations to AJ Edlund on her selection to the Jr. Area All-State Band as the 8th chair trumpet!
Edlund was selected for the honor ensemble after her performance at the Spring NYSSMA Solo Festival, where she was evaluated on scales, a prepared piece, and a sight-reading excerpt.
As an avid lover of music, Edlund has been playing the trumpet since the summer after 5th grade. Her instrument holds extra sentimental value as it previously belonged to her great-aunt. She loves playing music for others, especially her favorite song, “Freddie Freeloader” by Miles Davis.
For any aspiring students looking to make the All-State festival next year, Edlund offers these words of encouragement, “Keep trying. Some days will be off, but it is a process. You are doing great!”
